Food is Fuel, Not an Enemy

Social media has really destroyed self-esteem right and left since it came on the scene. It’s distorted, unattainable images that thrust people into body dysmorphia right and left within a matter of seconds. The days of the duck lip face are long gone – we have arrived and are deep in the trend, yes trend, of body modification. I am learning at age 34 what BBL means – Brazilian butt lift. I’m learning that leggings or leaning a way with 200 filters can really make you look like you have a giant ass, but in reality you don’t (which is fine!).

A Year In - How The Pandemic Has Impacted Our Workouts

It’s Been 365 Days and some of us….…are still feeling lost on our fitness journey. For me, it’s been a hard year. I started with the same mindset of this will give me ample time to workout. And it has, but other things have kind of gotten in the way of that. For me, it is injury. Yes the back issue I have written about before – still here, still looming. It reminds me that if I workout too much I will be out for a week or two here and there, it also reminds me that something like pushing in a bench can throw it out completely. It’s really annoying if I’m being frank. I went from hauling loads of weight (the culprit) to moving tiny weights, completely seated, and for a longer period of time. I don’t necessarily mind that though…

One Year Later – Fitness (or lack thereof) during the COVID pandemic

I would guess the past 365 days has been a bit draining for everyone in some way. Our lives drastically changed when our world was shut down and a pandemic swept over the world. Black Lives Matter

Today, my wife, who is half black, our daughter, and I went on a hike. We are in an area in a cabin surrounded by Trump and “Blue Lives Matter” flags. Most of you think I’m a “tough motherfucker”, but we are out here and I’m afraid of my wife being called the “N word”, or worse. If we are seen as a same sex couple, Asian and Black, with a child, I fear we could be attacked because of how emboldened people are feeling by this current administration. We’ve woken up to the murders of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery, Jacob Blake being shot 7 times in front of his kids. We’ve woken up to centuries of racism and murder, and we fear what we will wake up to tomorrow.

Think You're Too Old or it's Too Late to Workout? You're Wrong!

The fitness industry often uses marketing to draw in younger, legging wearing women, or shirtless 8 pack men to promote their products or programs. Though this tactic can draw in a younger crowd of fitness seeking individuals, it definitely does not cover a majority of those looking to stay in shape and stay healthy.

Lessons Learned on Accountability Coaching

One of the biggest needs my clients have when they come to me is accountability. Something that can give them a little extra boost to say, ‘I have a workout today, I need to get it done.’ Sometimes you just don’t – for whatever reason, and that’s okay.

It’s important we work hard to make sure we don’t pile up excuses and let it prevent us from being healthy and strong. I truly believe no matter where you are, what you have, and how little or much time you have – there is time to workout if you want it.
